I managed to get hold of a second hand one last week, swapped it for a Minibrute, FB383 and a couple of guitar pedals with someone from Gearslutz. Lovely bit of kit and very inspiring.
hehhe, because they are awesome… well compared to second hand A4s and Mds and OTs, they are really rare… I assume they are still produced, cos I could get a new one immediately…
but i never tried one out, hence 2nd hand would rock… but how come they are so rare… thanks wascal!
Deep machine and not “old synthesizer” (as I read somewhere…). Who cares isn’t analog (actual trend…) ?
Said that, MNM isn’t for everyone and that’s good for shure.
From a MonoLover .
Because it is a fucking great machine?
I had the same problem a couple of months ago, i decided then to buy it brandnew from Elektron. And never regretted it.
Because the MNM is one of the most unique, versatile, and well made pieces of hardware you can get. And because it is so deep it’s it can take a person years to learn everything it can do, and many more years to actually use all of those features! A lot of people who own an MNM will say something like “this is the most amazing machine I’ve ever owned”.
THAT’S why you don’t see them sold second hand very much.
i started another topic which was called something like
if i have MD and A4 would a MNM be cancelling any of the previous out? and do i need an OT too, and if I need an OT …
it is inevitable … eventually there will be 4 boxes on my desk … i cannot comprehend the epicness that would be on display in my man cave …i am already getting the goosebumps and my stomach is turning on the thought of spending 2k gold coins
but hey, what better way to spend money than for gear? travelling? naay, girlfirend, naaah, whats left? retirement fund? hey, this goes hand in hand! yay !
I have a MnM Mk1 with no +Drive and even the very first version is pretty awesome. I bought mine used off ebay incredibly cheap and it may be previous version, missing all those extras the Mk2 possess…but since I do not know what am missing, the features and depth are all amazing. I dare say I prefer this over my A4 for fact I am a synthesis/sound designer and find I click with this well. Then there’s the whole external midi sequencing capabilities. All good!
USA Ebay currently has several used MnM Mk2 with and w/o +Drives for sale!
+1 While the MnM lacks the A4’s live tweakability, it’s an amazingly capable all-in-one box. What I love about it is that it still feels like an instrument that’s looking towards the future, when so many instruments of the modern analog revival are rooted firmly in the past.
I just got my A4 two weeks ago, and yeah… I can’t help but think I got the wrong one at times. Having both the A4 and the Mono would be a nice combo though, have a little ambient background going on with some thumping analog beats…
Tbh I don’t think that the MnM is Elektron’s most popular box, judging purely on the how popular this sub forum is compared to the rest. To be fair, it could also just be that it’s so straightforward to use so there aren’t a lot of questions to ask >.> I know I hit the ground running with it, but I did start Elektron with an OT
Again, just wild speculation on my part, it could be their number one seller for all I know, but I tend to see more people with only the MD, OT, or A4 as their sole Elektron if they only have one, and a lot of MnMs seem to be paired with MDs (obviously).
because they are amazing and can do anything. If you’re like me and love the sound of analog gear, then the MNM is the PERFECT compliment. That and it does EVERYTHING.
