Gear to be CV/gate sequenced by AF/AK

Shruthi CV:
[ul]
[li]The input CV must be constrained in the 0V … 5V range. Voltages outside of this range will damage the MCU. This is not a problem when wiring a pot, joystick, sensor, LDR, etc, but it could be a problem when adding jacks for connecting external signals from a modular. We recommend adding a protection circuit on the inputs – such as two unity gain inverters, the second realized with a single-supply rail-to-rail op-amp.[/li]
[li]The CV inputs are scanned at a fairly low rate (close to 50 Hz), and their resolution is 8-bit. This prevents audio-rate modulations, and accurate pitch control.[/li]
[/ul]
So what does this mean in relation to A4 controlling the Shruthi?

I’d guess the same applies to the A4. Don’t feed the Shruthi with anything outside of the 0-5V range unless you put the op-amp circuit in (or inverter). That being said, you have full control of CV voltages on the A4 so it’s not a problem.

If I recall correctly, the Shruthi XT eurorack DIY build actually comes with the op-amp circuit described. Can’t be sure though.

Any more suggestions or anything new drop at Namm with A4 fifth voice potential? I didn’t realise having that fifth track just doing nothing would annoy me quite as much!

Not sure modular will be a healthy habit for me to start

Anyone tried the Dreadbox Erebus?

healthy for your brain, maybe not so much for your ears or bank account

I don’t have a lot of modular because I have to resists daily on it…all the modular I do have I love though.

as far a 5th voice, I would think modular would be the way you want to go…i.e. give me a SEM eurorack module now please

Another suggestion: Trax Retrowave (http://www.traxcontrols.com/retrowave.htm)

Not got one myself but have been tempted to bite the bullet and to just get one for a while now. Probably not doing much, if anything, that the A4 can’t already do but has a great amount of hands on control and a sound I prefer over, say, the MS20.

Dammit I just broke my resolve and shelled out on a pittsburgh cell48, 5v adapter and MI braids - fell in love with the sounds I was hearing in vids, when it gets here ill make a vid of it through analog keys’ filters and post. Looks like im never gonna afford an octatrack, soon as I get halfway I give in to GAS :’(

Have you seen this? Massive update to the Braids.

Wow that looks pretty sweet! Once ive learned the vanilla mode ill def have to try it out.

Is it possible to play an external oscillator within poly mode? Five or six voice poly would be so fun on a keyboard.

Mutable Instruments Braids.

• digital / TOTALLY different texture
• very, very versatile
• just a few CV inputs which modify sound in very cool ways
• some settings even have built-in VCA envelope
• compact

Yes I finally got round to setting braids up this week - it is a perfect accompaniment to the elektron. Dirty digital through silky filters ftw!

My highlights from a couple of sessions messing with it;
Bit and sample reduction on the osc, being fed to overdrive in the elektron.
multisaws/squares - frees up having to use unison voices on the ak (not exactly the same result but nice and thick sounding all the same).
keyboard tracking fm- yay!
Pluck model being fed by Reaktor spiral = instant ambient.
The dirac osc can really crank out the dnb bass when you hit the sweet spot.

I’ve barely scratched the surface of its capabilities yet, but am more than a little impressed - was a toss up between this and the waldorf wt osc for me, think I picked well. Next im thinking of grabbing the audio damage shifters so can detune and mix with itself through my ak.

Edit:
Playing around with braids into the AK:

Bees in Trees firmware…even more modulation capabilities internally and via the A4 outputs.

kiss your money goodbye, if eurorack tickles your fancy at all, you will never be able to stop once you start…I held off for a long time but once I started it was game over

I’m in line for an MI Elements (a more focused voice) and Clouds.

the axoloti will be a very interesting option.

with a very little tinkering you can drive it via CV

Haha yeah im trying to be good - intentionally bought a very small case to start with, and am going to focus on things to add to my ak setup. Decided on my next purchases, the audio damage grainshifter etc - i figured with these i can split the signal from braids and have a lot more sonic versatility with it while still focusing on the ak. Is scary though, the whole eurorack thing - I could go out tomorrow annd spent £20k, and still have stuff on the wishlist. All seems to hold its value though so is not just throwing money away!
Clouds is high on the wishlist, and elements and shelves - also phonogene from make noise.
Also noticed something - my pitsburgh cell48 is almost exactly same dimensions as the keybed of my ms20mini (but half the width). May look at whether a cell90 could replace the keybed (effectively turning it into a desktop module, could even add modules to act as junctions like the new ms20 kit).

actually, that is probably one of the things I shouldn’t have done (buy a small case)

I started with a tiptop HEK, ran out of room way too fast…then again, I wasn’t buying small modules either.

About to take the plunge on my part, have an A4 being delivered on Friday. Have an MS-20 and Microbrute which already work together, but the A4 will hopefully turn the whole thing into a complete six-voice beast.

More importantly I’ll get to call the whole thing the Brute 420.

That was my setup (except an ak not an a4, and ms20 mini rather than original), though ended up selling the microbrute as needed cash for xmas. The microbrute is astonishingly good for the price isnt it! I miss it, may get another in the future - very well made and great sound. You may find you end up using midi to trig the microbrute so that you can use the cv channels for the ms20 (tempo syncd lfos ftw) - I did at least.

Ooh, I like that idea. I already use an iPad as a MIDI bridge between the two (my 20’s also a mini) so they should all gel like that. I’m doing that already to an extent between the Brute and the 20, just send the Brute’s LFO output to the 20. I use the Brute’s envelope on the filters a lot as well as I have trouble wrapping my head around the screwy way the 20’s EGs work.

Also Belkin rockstars. Wonderful little things. How many things have you tried to drive with the A4’s CVs, assuming you’re doing splitting?

As for the Microbrute, yeah it’s great for the money. I admit though I don’t really use it on its own but as an expansion to the 20. I get an extra oscillator (with pulse width!), run one through the other for something akin to a four-pole filter, crazy feedback loops, the works. Using MidiBridge on the iPad and I can even do three-note chords with a bit of setup.

I spent $1000 on thd two synths and feel I got something far more flexible than that $1200 desktop module MS-20. Good times, looking forward to the A4 completing the setup.
